Key Challenges
No transportation/enough road to the main transit hubs:
- There is only one road connecting main train station to the campus and the city
- People would prefer to use their own car that increases traffic
- One third of the population are students whom they can’t afford having a car, so having a proper transit would be crucial
Low density area and seasonal demand for transit:
- With just 15K population, traditional public transit would be a huge cost and inefficient plan
- There is a seasonal demand for transport only in summer, thus having a full public transit fleet would be unnecessary
- There is no convenient transit present in summer
Limited parking space in the main transit Hubs, especially during weekdays:
- When everyone use their own car to get to the main transit hub, they would face limited parking space
- Parking spaces are usually expensive
High reliance on personal car:
- With no public transit, people depend a lot on their cars. High reliance on personal cars means more congestion and pollution,and
- more Cost forced on students and families, thus more social inequity
Goals
- Connect passengers from city and campus to the main transit hubs
- Use already existing transit infrastructure to support everyday need and increased demand in summer
- Reduce congestion and pollution
Solutions
- Using university buses as already existing DRT infrastructure
- Connecting people to each other with carpool solution, and connect them to the optimal public transit station or DRT option with multimodal trip planner
- Planning the whole trip to make the payment process easier, and step by step guide through the trip, that is crucial to tourists
- Multimodal planning, which makes it easier and more flexible to match people for ride, no need to have the same origin or destination
